Welcome to our Wetland Webquest!

You need to use the links found on our class webquest homepage to answer the following questions. 1. What are wetlands? An area characterized by a high content of soil moisture. 2. Why are wetlands important? Wetlands are important because they have healthy lakes, rivers, and streams. They also act as a filter for the waters of our lakes, rivers and streams. 3. What animals and plants are found in the wetlands? Some types of animals and plants found in the wetlands are: beavers and muskrats, as well assnakes, turtles, and alligators. 4. What are some causes for wetland loss? Some causes for wetland loss are: sea level rise, hurricanes and other storms, and oil and gas canals. 5. What are five of the animals and six of the plants in the wetlands that are endangered? Five animals that are endangered are: red-shouldered hawk, sandhill crane, yellow-headed blackbird, bald eagle, and short-eared owl.

List some (at least four of each) plants and animals found in the New Jersey wetlands.

Plants: White water lily, pink tickseed, glasswort, and spartina.

Animals:
Flamingos, porcupines, crabs, and white tailed deer.

What are some things that middle school students can do to help protect wetland areas? They can clean up any trash that was droped there,give the animals food, etc.
